I never thought I’d be writing about a taboo subject. Well , at least a taboo subject amongst women of color.
See, getting cosmetic enhancements are nothing new especially when you’re from a place like Los Angeles, CA (thank God I relocated).
In fact, getting any type of cosmetic enhancement is so common that its almost ‘strange’ if a woman has not tried it at least once.
Well, I finally joined the ‘injection’ family and decided to try it myself.
Before we get in the nitty gritty details, I first want to break down why I received these types of fillers and will consider others in the future:
- I finally have the confidence to go through with it.
- I’ve always wanted to try it (since I had the nerve to judge other women for doing it.)
- I can now afford it.
- I’m a grown woman and its my own choice.
I had to get the reasons why out the way because many people always make rediculous comments like:
“You don’t NEED them.”
“You’re fine just the way you are.”
“Is it that serious?”
First, no one ever really NEEDS cosmetic enhancement. While I can only speak for myself most women given the time and monetary resources would do something to ‘enhance’ their appearance.
And in the words of my specialist who did my fillers:
“Most women who judge other women for having the gumption to do what she (me) is doing are only judging because they wish they can do it but can’t afford it.”
Those were HER words, not mine.
So I decided to get LIP FILLERS!
Yes, you heard that right. you may think, ‘but Nycole, you already have full lips”.
I felt my top lip wasn’t matching my bottom lip so I wanted to make them even.
I also wanted to fill in the lines that are common in all lips.
Let me give you a brief run down of the process.
I arrived at my appointment and filled out an intake form asking about my medical history. This took about all of 5-minutes.
I was then given a rundown on how long the process would take and what type of filler that was to be injected into my lips.
A numbing cream was then applied to my top and bottom lips for 15-minutes and then the process began.
You can watch the video here.
Overall, the process took 45 minutes. Pain was minimal and I had hardly any swelling.
Only a half syringe was injected into my lips, mostly to the top of my lip.
It is definitely worth a try. I love my lips because they came out so natural, honestly you can’t even tell. My lips settled in by day 4.

Have you ever considered lip fillers?
