When it comes to eating healthy, it can be a challenge. I do my best to eat mostly ‘good’ stuff during the week.
What I mean by ‘good’ is limited to no sugar, carbs, fast food etc. But when the weekend comes around I deviate from my ‘diet’ and enjoy myself.
But what if we can’t completely deviate for whatever dietary reasons?
Last weekend I stopped by The Union Kitchen of Houston, a hip restaurant in the midtown area of Houston.
The food is delicious and there are so many options, but I wanted to enjoy my food without feeling completely guilty so I ordered the following.

The Crab cake with avocado blended with salsa and balsamic is a low fat pleasure with few calories but healthy fat (hello avocado). The size initially looking is not intimidating but it is definitely filling!
I then followed that with light fried asparagus topped with pramesean cheese and crab meat (yum). Fun way to enjoy a vegetable.

Things to consider when going out to eat and not feel completely guilty.
- Start with water w/lemon (curbs your appetite if your eyes are bigger than your stomach).
- Choose a plate that is no more than 1200 calories
- Make sure whatever you order has some veggies on the side (for nutritional value).
